SCWO(Singapore Council of Women’s Organizations) was incorporated in March 1980, and is a collective voice for 57 women’s organizations in Singapore, representing close to 1 million women across diverse ages, nationalities, professions and interest groups. As the national coordinating council of women’s organizations, SCWO is involved in the education, advocacy, promotion and protection of women’s interests and rights through its various programmes.
The Star Shelter is a safe, temporary refuge for women and their children who are victims of domestic violence regardless of race, language, creed or religion. It empowers the victims to manage and take responsibility for their lives, and assist them in rebuilding their lives free from violence.
The Shelter is a registered charity, and has been in operation since March 1999. It is the only secular crisis centre in Singapore and can house up to 30 persons at a time.
